FAQ

What is pediatric urgent care anyway? Pediatric urgent care is a unique type of medical practice specializing in illness and injury care for children.  Our whole goal is to keep a variety of tools and equipment on hand so that we can provide the best, most efficient, cost effective, compassionate medical care for your child.  We strive to be open when you need us and we provide a safe alternative to emergency rooms for the majority of common childhood illnesses and injuries.  Illness and injury doesn’t strike between 9AM and 5PM Monday through Friday and we believe your healthcare should be accessible accordingly.      Why wouldn’t we just go to our doctor’s office? We love our primary care colleagues.  In fact, our founder, Dr. Fish practiced primary care pediatrics prior to opening Pacific Crest Children’s.  However, due to the demands placed on primary care doctors (the places you take your kids for their checkups), they often aren’t able to keep the supplies on hand, or invest as much time as is needed for some of the more complicated illnesses that children come down with.  And they can’t be open all the time either.  That’s why we are here, to help take care of you when your doctor’s office is unavailable — or when it's less convenient for you to get there.  We will get your child feeling better and communicate with your doctor so that the next time they see you, they know exactly what happened.      Yes, but what about just going to the regular urgent care up the street? At Pacific Crest Children’s, we only take care of kids.  Kids of all ages are welcome, from the cradle to college.  All of our staff is trained in pediatrics only.  All of our equipment geared only towards kids and young adults.  We know how to put kids at ease and how to make them feel better using just the tools and tests that are needed.  No more and no less.      Ok, but the ER is available all the time, why wouldn’t we go there? Emergency rooms and Emergency room providers and staff are great.  They provide an excellent service for things like major trauma, significant difficulty breathing, and extremely sick children.  Thankfully, those types of illnesses and injuries are much less common than what your child is likely to experience.  Further, at no fault of their own, ER costs are out of control and due to a lack of alternatives, wait times are often excessive.  We estimate we can safely take care of 80% or so of the things that show up to an ER.  Most of the time we can do this at a fraction of the wait times and 1/5th of the price tag.  Unsure if you should take your child to an Emergency room or come here?  Give us a ring, we’d be glad to help.      Sounds pretty good!  How do we find you? We are located at 6924 NE Sandy Blvd in Portland.  We are located across Sandy Blvd from Safeway, next door to Roseway Veterinary Hospital in the cream building with red trim.  We are open from 3P-10P M-F and 11A-6P Saturday and Sunday.
